Director
Ed heads up our Life Sciences work. He leads teams of architects and technicians, and focuses on championing sustainable design and design quality, particularly within the life science and offices sectors within the practice.
Graduating from Plymouth University with distinction, Ed gained experience in architectural design for a broad range of media, creating virtual architecture and visionary projects for everything from web based media to film and television. Ed has significant cross-sector experience including research and laboratory, offices, residential, student accommodation, defence, transport and education.
His appreciation of his clients’ commercial aspirations balanced against an emphasis on creative design solutions enables him to deliver the development brief from concept to completion. Ed was responsible for the design for the ultra low energy CABI Headquarters in Oxford and the Carbon Minus home for the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Woolwich.
He plays a crucial role in shaping the design of buildings for life sciences, healthcare, and technology companies. Ed's understanding of both the technical and practical demands of life sciences spaces, combined with Scott Brownrigg's collaborative approach, positions him as an important figure in designing environments that support innovation and advance the science and technology sectors.
Ed is exceptionally well known and regarded within the sector and regularly speaks and writes on the subjects of flexible lab design, collaboration and how to create thriving lab environments. His work includes Plot 1-21 Cambridge Science Park, The Daubeny Oxford Science Park, Cambridge Science Park Bio-Hub, Cambridge International Technology Park, Wootton Science Park, Eastpoint Science Park, Arm Headquarters.
He is currently exploring how Ai can influence Lab design and is also launching Lab Life – an app that delivers evidence-based design and strategy solutions for lab space planning.
