Wales International Convention Centre
This competition-winning design for the new £65m Wales’ International Convention Centre at Celtic Manor will attract major events from across the world. The 27,000 sq m facility will have a total capacity for 5,000 delegates, making it the largest of its kind in Wales and the Southwest of England. The scheme provides a state-of-the-art auditorium which will hold 1,500 delegates and has flexibility to be divided into smaller spaces to suit various sized events. There is also a separate 4,000 sq m exhibition hall which can accommodate up to 3,000 guests for gala dinners. Celtic Manor requires a building that will express a permanence and longevity and contribute to the visual aspect that the site offers to the adjacent motorway. The design provides an iconic and distinct form that utilises traditional Welsh slate and complements the established presence of the existing hotel. The design responds to the environmental capital that the adjacent woodland provides. The visual connectivity with the landscape is present throughout the building, with prominent sight lines that create a distinct and unique conferencing experience.
