Network Rail, Basingstoke Campus
BAM for Network Rail
This new campus development for Network Rail provides route management, maintenance and training facilities. It accommodates a new regional workforce development centre, combining maintenance and operational training, and replacing a range of more localised and restricted facilities. There is also a new rail operating centre and route office which provides support services. The workforce development centre sits at the heart of the main building providing indoor training facilities for railway track and signals, as well as classrooms. Its most prominent feature, the internal track area, is located at the base of a three-storey atrium and provides a visual expression of the core function to trainees, employees and visitors. As resilience of operations is vital for the development, failsafe mechanisms, including electricity supplies from two substations, have been implemented to ensure continuity in the event of disaster.
