MoD Joint HQ, Northwood

Carillion Construction/MoD

The ten year regeneration of this key strategic site for the MoD has been delivered with the Carillion and MoD Northwood Development teams. Facilities include the Royal Navy’s worldwide Maritime Operations Centre; new and refurbished single living accommodation for over 600 personnel; a range of new community and leisure facilities which incorporate a sport and fitness centre, a pre-school nursery and a landmark church building. The focal point of the regeneration project is the 15,800 sq m (170,000 sq ft) BREEAM “Excellent” Headquarters Building, which houses the new UK Joint Forces Headquarters and a generic Multi National Force Headquarters. The building was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in May 2010 and won the PPF Award for Best Operational Project in 2011. “Scott Brownrigg has been part of the integrated project team from the beginning, consistently working with the MOD to ensure that its requirements and expectations were being met each step of the way. There is no doubt that the new facilities will produce a vastly improved top-level military headquarters and will allow the MOD to provide more efficient direction to Britain’s defence operations across the world. Scott Brownrigg has anticipated the needs of our people and worked closely with us to minimise the impact on day-to-day operations. It has designed and is delivering the solution we wanted. What is more, this is being done during one of the busiest periods for defence in modern history". Mr J J Quigley, Director NDP
