Kestrel House (HR Wallingford HQ)
This headquarters building for HR Wallingford, together with its award-winning sister, Red Kite House completes the entrance to Howberry Park, an environment and technology based business park. They are the first two completed buildings on the business park following outline planning permisison for the masterplan, also developed by Scott Brownrigg. The brief was to design an environmentally sustainable building that could champion the environment and technology business park concept, as well as reflect the operating needs of HR Wallingford. Sustainable design measures include external brise soleil shading, a mixed mode environmental control system with openable windows, displacement ventilation and chilled beams fed from on site borehole water sources, a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) to landscaping and car parking areas, solar water heating, and provision for grey water harvesting to be retro fitted in the future. Kestrel House has a mechanical environmental control system which provides excellent carbon performance as defined by the current Building Regulations. The building won a BCO Regional Award in 2011.
