Chilton Trinity Community Swimming Pool, Somerset

Sedgemoor District Council and Somerset Futures

The new community swimming pool at Chilton Trinity School in Bridgewater incorporates a 25 metre, six lane pool and a training pool, spectator seating as well as a fitness suite and café; the leisure facility is available for both community and school use, with the layout and organisation of all elements allowing for independent use by both. A fully glazed south facing elevation, together with a high level roof light to the pool hall, creates a bright and attractive environment. Exposed Glulam beams and timber seating creates contrast and adds warmth to the pale walls and floors. Externally, the dark grey curtain walling and brise soleil reflect the main school building design. The swimming pool is the final component of the new 1,050 pupil Chilton Trinity School, which opened in November 2012, also designed by the practice.
