5-6 St James’s Square, London
Exemplar Properties for Rio Tinto
This 24,000 sq m (258,334 sq ft) mixed-use project in Westminster, London includes the refurbishment of a listed building at number 5 St James Square and the redevelopment of its neighbour, number 6, plus a series of connected buildings. The practice was appointed to review a scheme originally submitted for planning by Dixon Jones Architects and, following this review, the internal layout, core and entrance designs, and the elevations of the internal court were modified. The design responds to the qualities of the square and the context of the surrounding streets with a sympathetic scale and architectural language. The building has achieved both BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and LEED ‘Platinum’ environmental standards.
