Planning permission achieved for new building at University of Surrey

11.11.10

On 10 November, Guildford Borough Council granted planning consent for a new student reception and residence building at the University of Surrey.

The 2, 430 sq m three storey building designed and won by Scott Brownrigg via a limited competition will act as the landmark gateway to the university’s Manor Park Residences.  It will comprise 42 enhanced bedrooms, a full service kitchen, café, seating area and meeting rooms.  Each bedroom will be to a high standard, and offers kitchenette and ensuite facilities.

The Scott Brownrigg design responds sensitively to the setting and is derived from a clear understanding of both external and internal functions.  The design uses bold, simple building forms with the imaginative use of low maintenance materials, whilst efficient and economic space planning enables the development of an affordable, high quality interior design and fit-out.

Professor Stephen Baker says:  “We are delighted with the innovative design, and are looking forward to this excellent new facility at the University”

The building starts on site in Spring 2011 and will complete in Summer 2012.
