05.09.14

The first phases  of the Kings Park, Harold Wood development, designed by Scott Brownrigg on behalf of Countryside Properties have been shortlisted in the Sunday Times British Homes Awards for Development of the Year (26-100 Houses).

The Kings Park scheme is one of four schemes shortlisted in this category. The criteria is for  ‘A residential development of any size that demonstrates a positive aesthetic architectural contribution within its immediate environ and judged on external and internal design, layout, landscaping and the provision of services and communal amenities.’

The complex overall masterplan redevelops the 31.4 acres (12.69 hectares) Kings Park site (formerly Harold Wood Hospital) to provide 810 residential units, with a mix of houses and apartments. The successful delivery is a result of a coordinated consultation between Countryside Properties, Havering Borough Council, Greater London Authority, East Thames Group, local interest groups and various other professionals involved in the design process.

Scott Brownrigg’s masterplan and design for the houses and apartments delivers Countryside Properties’ vision for the scheme as outlined by Richard Cherry Deputy Chairman “To create an exceptional and inclusive place for people to live and enjoy. The development of the former Harold Wood Hospital will be designed and built to the highest standard. The regeneration of this brownfield site will make an important contribution to the Borough’s housing needs.”

The phased project has delivered three phases to date, with a further three phases under construction and the final phases due to be submitted for Reserved Matters approval in 2014.

The winner will be announced at an award ceremony to be held on 19 September at the London Marriott.

This shortlisting adds to the two accolades achieved to date for one of the house types, The Villa at Kings Park, Harold Wood. This house type won a Silver Award in the ‘Best House’ category of the What House? Awards 2013 and achieved Highly Commended in the ‘Best Family Home’ category in the Evening Standard New Homes Award 2013.
